Image
The Minister of Sports Nii Lante Vanderpuije has served notice President John Mahama will return as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate in the 2020 elections, despite a humiliating defeat in the December polls. Speaking on personality profile show – Starr Chat – on Starr 103.5 FM Wednesday, Mr. Vanderpuije stressed Mahama will be “forced” by party members to stage a comeback because he is the obvious choice to lead the outgoing NDC government. “We’ll force John Mahama to go,” the MP for Odododiodoo told his host Bola Ray. The outspoken and controversial lawmaker is optimistic his boss will be on the ballot again in four years’ time, adding there is no way his running mate Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will contest if Mahama declines. “If John Mahama will not go, Amissah-Arthur will not go,” Mr. Vanderpuije was emphatic, noting that a reverse decision by the outgoing vice president will be a “betrayal” of his boss. Appointments into FG’s boards, agencies maybe announced early 2017

Abuja – The Presidency says the appointments into the Federal Government’s boards, parastatal and agencies will be “fully back on track” at the beginning of 2017. A Presidential Media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, made this known in an interactive session with State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday. The delay in the appointments of members of the boards and agencies by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been generating interest and comments from various quarters particularly from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Shehu, however, assured that the process will be fully back on track at the beginning of the new year. “You know that the reconstitution began methodically, from sector by sector. You should expect that to resume at the beginning of the new year. “The president has given directions on what to do,” he said. On the agricultural programmes of the Federal Government, the Presidential aide said that the President’s persistent calls for

The only New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate to win a seat in the Volta Region, Michael Gyato, has attributed the remarkable victory of the party in the general elections to the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) poor performance in the region. The NPP normally heads into the elections with low expectations of the Volta Region given the region’s standing as an overwhelming stronghold of the NDC. However, as results filtered in from the elections, it became clear the party was heading for an improved performance in the region, owing to among other things, a significantly reduced turnout in the region. In the end, the NPP had improved its presidential performance to about 18 percent and managed to clinch an unlikely seat in one of the 22 constituencies. Speaking to Citi News, the MP-elect for Krachi East also said the region was no more a stronghold for the NDC as, according to him, more education has ensured that “Ghanaians are now discerning. They can read between the good and the bad.” “That is why Nana Addo is talking about the free SHS. If we have educated ones, most of them will read between the lines and vote by the convictions. We were all NDC, you go to the university, come back and you are a changed person,” Mr. Gyato said.

He made the call at a ceremony held by the Spiritan University College branch of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP to honour him for the huge part he played in the party’s election victory in the Ejisu constituency. The party won both the presidential and parliamentary elections by 84.48 per cent and Mr. Twumasi, popularly known as “NTK”, was instrumental in that. The students together with the constituency youth wing, in recognition of his vital contribution, presented him with a citation.
