Popular pop star, Ayodeji Balogun, a.k.a. Wizkid, has commended the Lagos State police command for redeeming his image before his international clients and arresting a 19-year-old fraudster who ripped prospective clients abroad of their hard earned money. “I am very thankful to the Nigeria police for what they did for me. The case has been going on for a while now, I thank God we have been able to arrest one of the suspects. We would pursue this case to the court and ensure we get justice. “The actions of these fraudsters have affected my business worldwide. I still have two cases pending in New York, United States now. There was a particular case of a $45,000 that was collected from a promoter in USA by these fraudsters using my name. There is another case of $25,000. I am happy my name is being cleared and I want justice. “The situation has affected me psychologically because I was being accused of taking money I knew nothing about. The press also did not believe me so tha

What Body-Shaming Is Like in South Korea

Image
Alina Shamsutdinova throwing her deuces up. (Photo: Facebook) Body-shaming is an international epidemic affecting millions of women (and men) — especially those who are plus-size. While some countries celebrate a fuller figure, 23-year-old international student Alina Shamsutdinova experienced a serious case of culture shock when she spent time in South Korea.  “Among the things I heard was, ‘It’s OK to be ugly, but being fat is unforgivable,’” she told the  Korea Herald . “Another comment was, ‘You’re really lucky that you have a pretty face. Otherwise you would never be able to have a boyfriend.’” Critiques like these were beyond hurtful to Shamsutdinova, and she quickly began fasting to lose weight, only to gain it back soon after. Coming from Kazakhstan, Alina had always felt confident and never struggled with self-image; however, she quickly learned that her body type wasn’t as widely accepted in Korean culture as it was in Kazakhstan.  “I think I just tried to follow w

Wearing Makeup Influences How Men and Women Perceive Your Social Status, in Different Ways

Image
“Does this lipstick make me look dominant or prestigious?” (Photo: Getty Images) More Anyone who has ever  swiped on red lipstick , dabbed on concealer to  make under-eye circles disappear , or created  the perfect cat eye  knows the transformative power of makeup. And while cosmetics can change the way you feel about yourself on the inside, it also has an effect on the way people perceive you on the outside. A  study  reported June 9 in the journal  Perception  delved into how using  makeup  influences people’s perception of your social status. In the study, both men and women looked at photos of women with a subtle amount of makeup digitally applied to their faces and the same women without any makeup, and then rated them based on various traits, such as attractiveness, dominance, and prestige. “We already knew that makeup altered certain social attributes like trustworthiness,  earning potential , and competence,”  Alex Jones , PhD, the lead author of the study and a lectu

Igbos Should Go & Sit Down, Biafra is Dead & Buried” – Apostle Suleman

Image
Apostle Johnson Suleman is the General Overseer and Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) and President of Celebration TV, Auchi, Edo State, and he’s also known for his accurate prophecies across the country and beyond. In this interview with ENCOMIUM Weekly a couple of days back in Ikeja, Lagos, the brilliant clergy dissected Nigeria’s situation and much more… The Nigerian economy is getting worse by the day and Nigerians keep lamenting. In fact, Nigerians who voted for change are now regretting their action. As a prophet of God, what is really happening? Let me start by painting this background that when you start anything on a wrong foundation, it becomes a big problem. For instance, you know that the foundation of a building determines the height it goes; President Muhammed Buhari is confused, he is very confused. In 2012, Buhari was against subsidy removal, he saw it as a scam and now in 2016, he removed subsidy. This is something you didn’t believe it existe

Ali Baba Shares Powerful Testimony Of How His Wife Almost Drank Acid After Mistaking it For Water

Image
Comedian Alibaba shared a really powerful testimony on how his wife miraculously escaped drinking Acid. Read Below: You see that patch, in that lush green? That is one great lesson in THE GRASS MAY NOT BE AS GREEN AS YOU THINK. That patch in the grass, has been there for a year today!!! Ok, so a year ago, my wife was supervising workers as she was chewing cashew nuts. Then she started choking on it. She had had a bottle of water in her hand in the Garage all the while. So when she choked, terry eyed, beating on her chest and trying to force herself to cough, she reached out for the bottle that she thought was the one she had been drinking from. The lid was a lot tighter than how it was on the bottle she had been drinking from. She stride to unscrew it and at that second attempt to unscrew it, she turned around to see if there was anyone around to open it and saw the real bottle she was drinking from. And she dropped the tightly screwed one. Anyway, we thank God sh

Lagos—A 28 year old electrician, Muyil Ahmed was yesterday sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of robbery by an Ikeja High Court at gun point four years ago. Ahmed and others at large, had sometime in July 2012 in Ikorodu approached the complainant (names withheld)  around 9pm saying they wanted to buy a bottle of whiskey. She was said to have told them that she had closed for business but they insisted on buying from her. Donald Trump Just Made Some Shady Insinuations About President Obama and the Orlando Shooting

Image
Donald Trump  suggested Monday that President Obama is oblivious to issues of terrorism —and he seemed to suggest in the process that Obama might sympathize with the suspected gunman in  the deadly Orlando nightclub shooting. The unsubstantiated insinuations, in a series of interviews Monday morning, came from the Republican presidential candidate who once led calls for the release of the President’s birth certificate  and has more than once  indulged conspiracy theories  about Obama’s faith and heritage. On Monday, just one day after a gunman killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in Orlando—the worst mass shooting in American history—Trump said on  Fox News  that he believes there’s “something else going on.” “Look, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind,” Trump said. “People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’ There’s somethi

Remarkably, the contractors of the project have completed the project, but Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, owner of the project, is not in a hurry to inaugurate it and this is worrisome to the people. The traders and residents of the community, therefore, have appealed to NDDC to launch the ultra-modern motor park with lock up shops to spare them the anguish of trading on the highway, close to the Bomadi Bridge. Chairlady of Bomadi community and leader of the market women, Mrs. Akebofa Oyakebiseimoh, who recounted ordeal of traders trading on the bridgehead, said it was risky as heavy-duty trucks ply the bridge and casualties would be high

Crisis looms in banks over energy sector’s rising bad loans

Image
THE Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has warned that the rising Non-Performing Loans, NPLs, in the oil and gas sector poses serious threat to stability in the Nigerian banking system. The CBN, in its Financial Stability Report for December 2015, released recently, disclosed that the collapse of crude oil prices and the  impact on government revenues and foreign reserves portend risks to banking system stability through increase in default rates, reduction in solvency levels and volatility in exchange rates. According to the CBN, non-performing loans, in the period under review, rose by 3.36 per cent to N649.63 billion at end-December 2015, from N628.54 billion at end-June 2015, representing a 78.8 per cent increase from the N363.31 billion recorded at end-December 2014. The NPL ratio, the CBN said, rose to 4.86 per cent from 4.65 per cent, adding that although the NPL ratio remained within the prudential ceiling of 5.0 per cent, it trended closer to the upper limit. The CBN disclosed th
